Winter, Softened: Gentle Shifts That Embrace Our Changing Needs

I've found that sustaining energy in winter isn’t about pushing harder—it’s about attuning more finely to our own rhythm. By embracing the changing needs with small, intentional rituals, we can reconnect with the energy that feels right.

Here are five soft shifts I’ve been making this season. Perhaps you’ll find a few that speak to you, too.

1. Wake Up Later, Without Guilt

Yes—permission to sleep in. If your body is asking for more rest, winter is the time to listen. The lack of light affects our melatonin and cortisol cycles, which means earlier nights and slower mornings might actually be what your nervous system needs.

A gentle reframe: Instead of forcing yourself into summer's rhythm, honour the one that winter naturally sets.

2. Begin With a Delightful Morning Ritual

I’ve found myself looking forward to one small thing each morning: a cup of ginger tea in my favourite ceramic mug. It's such a simple gesture, but it grounds me. Just the warmth, spice, and something beautiful to hold is what I need.

Try this: Find a morning ritual that excites you. Light a candle. Sip something warm. Play a piece of music that stirs something in you. Let it be a moment of invitation, not obligation.

3. Make Plans You Can Look Forward To

It’s easy to isolate in winter, but connection is energising. Whether it’s a slow dinner with your partner, a coffee date with a friend, or a weekend movie with your children, schedule it. Anticipation is a powerful mood lifter, especially in darker months.

An idea: Once a week, put something on your calendar that nourishes your heart, not just your to-do list.

4. Nourish Your Skin (and Your Self)

Your skin tells the story of the season. In winter, it often craves deeper nourishment—balms, oils, and ingredients that comfort and protect. Caring for your skin isn’t just about appearance. When your skin feels soft, supple, and radiant, it subtly shifts your inner landscape too.

ReMI ritual: Add a rich, replenishing layer to your nighttime routine. Massage it in slowly, with presence. You can watch our How-To's here.

5. Move—Even When It’s Hard

I’ll admit, I’ve skipped a few sessions. The cold makes it easy to justify another hour under the covers. But I also know that movement shifts my energy like nothing else. It doesn’t have to be intense. Just consistent. Even a short walk, a dance in your kitchen, or ten minutes of stretching makes a difference.

Reminder: Exercise in winter isn’t about discipline—it’s about care. It’s how you stay connected to your own vitality.

And you?

What changes are you making this winter? What rituals are helping you stay soft, strong, and luminous? Share them—we’re always listening.

Let this season be one of grace. Of slowing, yes—but also of deepening into the rituals that restore you.

With warmth,
Kiyoung
